The General Skilled Migration Program (GSM) of Australia is a point based
immigration program that invites skilled and talented people from
overseas to apply for temporary or permanent skilled visa in Australia.
The GSM has three popular and point-tested visa categories, i.e.
- Skilled Independent Visa Subclass
189
- Skilled Nominated Visa Subclass
190
- Skilled Work Regional
(Provisional) Visa Subclass 491
First two among the list above are permanent visas, while third one
(Subclass 491) is the temporary visa allocated for five years by
Department of Home Affairs, Australia. If you want to apply for any of
the above visa categories, first, you need to check that you have a good
point score (minimum 65 points out of 100) based on some crucial factors
of your profile. These factors are age, education, English language
ability, work experience, etc.
The Australia also has a Skilled Occupation List (SOL) for each visa
category. Hence, before applying you also need to check whether your
occupation listed in relevant SOL or not. In addition, you need to check
whether you meet the eligibility point’s requirement or not.
Subsequently, you can submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) in the
online SkillSelect system. If your profile is selected, the Department
of Home Affairs, Australia will send you ITA (Invitation to Apply) for
visa.
